Cupping therapy

Cupping therapy
Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. The suction and negative pressure provided by cupping can loosen muscles, encourage blood flow, and sedate the nervous system.
At Bharath’s Acu Heal, the Acupuncturist practices dry cupping where the cups are placed for about 10-15 minutes to get the result. Cupping therapy increases the blood circulation to the area and relieves muscle tension improving the blood flow and promoting cell repair. This helps to form new connective tissues by creating new blood vessels.
Types of Cupping therapy:
At first, the Cupping therapy was performed using animal horns. Then it got replaced by bamboo, glass, silicone, and then ceramic. Initially, the suction was created by heating the cups and applying them to the skin. After getting cool, the cups drew the skin inside.
Nowadays, cupping is performed by glass cups that are rounded like balls and open on one end.
Two main categories of cupping performed today are:
- Dry Cupping
- Wet Cupping
These 2 have subcategories, like bila – Naar (vacuum created by manual or suction pump) & bil – Naar (vacuum created using fire) belongs to dry cupping whereas essential and voluntary cupping belongs to wet cupping (cupping with bloodletting)
Cupping Treatment:
According to the medical conditions, the Acupuncturist determines which method should be used.
During the treatment, a cup is heated with alcohol, herbs or paper. Once the fire source is removed, the heated cup will be placed with the open side directly on your skin. Modern Acupuncturists use rubber pumps to create suction with more traditional heat methods.
- Dry: Once the heated cup is suctioned onto the skin, it sends oxygen out of the cup, creating a vacuum. Some Acupuncturists use a suction device to remove air from the cups.
- Wet: Acupuncturists use a needle to puncture your skin lightly and then do the cupping. Through the puncture wounds, the toxins leave the body.
